I. Christians believe: Jesus loves the little messes, all the messes of the world. But . . . He loves us too much to leave us that way.
God loves me just the way I am, that may be true but I think he loves you move than that. He loves you too much to leave you just the way you are.
We dumb down Christianity to: Stay out of trouble! Behave!
What you need to know is Christianity is WAY better than that.
1 Corinthians 5:21 (NIV) - God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
When we believe we receive the righteousness of Christ and he takes all our sin.
II. The Christian life is not about avoiding another mess. It’s about becoming something.
Jesus described God as a Father
Relate to him as a father and fathers train their children
Philippians 1:3–6 - Every time I think of you, I give thanks to my God. 4 Whenever I pray, I make my requests for all of you with joy, 5 for you have been my partners in spreading the Good News about Christ from the time you first heard it until now. 6 And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.
Throughout the New Testament, we are reminded that God is up to something in us that should eventually come out of us.
[Christianity is an inside out faith.]
God started something in you and wants to finish it.
The essence of Christianity is God renewing our hearts and God renewing our minds. Until the changes in you make it out of you in your behavior and your actions and your attitudes.
Philippians 1:9-11 (NIV) - And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, 10 so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, 11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.
Paul’s prayer tips us off to what God is completing “in us.
This is the epicenter of what God wants to do in you. that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight
To learn and discern what is the best way to love others. I WANT YOU TO BE BLAMELESS IN THE WAY YOU TREAT OTHER PEOPLE.
This is what God is trying to do in side you. GOD IS NOT TRYING TO MAKE YOU A BETTER BEHAVIOR but a better lover of people.
The mark of a mature Christian… THIS IS IT LISTEN! The mark of a mature Christian is not their love for God but their love for people.
Pray: God teach me to see others through your eyes and love like you!
Following Jesus is not primarily about doing what’s right. It is doing what’s right for others.
1 Corinthians 13:1-3 - If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.
All these things are great things but we get hung up on this stuff when what God is starting in you and will continue with is your love for others because without it your faith is meaningless….
Loving others is about making God first. We talk about embracing the responsibility to lead our everyday people to New life and New possibilities. You can’t help but do that when you love people.
Cleaning your mess is not the point! You are becoming something, and your mess being straightened out is just a byproduct of what’s happening in you. You are becoming like Him because HE IS LOVE. Miss this, and you will dumb it down to “don’t mess up,” which centers you on you. Heavenly Father, complete the work you’ve begun in me.” This will tune your heart to what God is up to in you. Jesus loves the little messes, all the little messes of the world. But he loves you too much to leave you that way.He wants to make you like Him and he IS LOVE.
