YOUR GREATEST ADVENTURE | Filter

Our inability to filter the situations, circumstances, and conversations in our life through the filter of God’s Word is the quickest way to derail our adventure, get us stuck in rut, and allow the enemy to steal our joy and our vision for the future.

::Filter::

  1. A device for removing impurities.
    • Does your filter work? How would you know?
    • What are you even supposed to filter?
    • What impurities are you allowing to pass through unfiltered and unchecked?
  2. A device or material for suppressing or minimizing waves or oscillations of certain frequencies.
    • We’ve spent too much time entertaining the wrong frequencies.

God has given us a Life Straw, known as the Bible, to filter our lives and our world through.

1 Thessalonians 5:21-24 - "...test everything that is said. Hold on to what is good. 22 Stay away from every kind of evil. (NLT) 23 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it. (NIV)
Romans 12:2 - Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
Ephesians 5:17 - Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is.

There’s this idea of filtering out the negative frequencies of the world so that we can begin to tune into the frequencies of God, allowing Him to transform our minds so that we can hear and understand His will for our lives.

The Filter

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
— 2 Corinthians 10:5

God didn’t send you upstream without a filter!
He didn’t call you to this great adventure without giving you the resources that you need.

The Word of God isn’t some nice “add-on” that comes with following Christ.
We can’t survive without it.

Matthew 4:4 - "People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God."

Here’s how it works...

We elevate the Word of God believing that the Word is greater than our circumstances, greater than our problems, greater than our fears for today and worries about tomorrow.

"And the very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life.” - Jesus (John 6:63)

When life begins spewing lies, fear, uncertainty, greed, and selfishness — we demolish them by taking captive every thought, filtering it through the Word of God, and making it obedient to Christ.

Here’s the result...

Luke 6:47-49 - I will show you what it’s like when someone comes to me, listens to my teaching, and then follows it. It is like a person building a house who digs deep and lays the foundation on solid rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against that house, it stands firm because it is well built. But anyone who hears and doesn’t obey is like a person who builds a house right on the ground, without a foundation. When the floods sweep down against that house, it will collapse into a heap of ruins.”

RESPONSE

1 Corinthians 1:18 - The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God.
